World Record event

The Department of Costume Design and Fashion organized a World Record event on the occasion of Martyrs’ Day. A total of 120 students actively participated by printing portraits of national leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Velu Nachiyar, Sarojini Naidu, and Bhagat Singh on fabric using stencil painting within five minutes. In addition, the students conducted a fashion show within thirty minutes, showcasing garments featuring the images of national leaders.

The programme was inaugurated by the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. G.Gowtham, and the Principal, Dr. A. Mohanasundaram. The President of the College, Mr. P. Venkatachalam, presided over the function and appreciated the dedicated efforts of the students and faculty members. Mrs. M. Maheswari, Chief Executive Officer of the World Wonder Book of Records, Dr. P. J. Janarthanan, and Advocate Mr. Anup graced the occasion as Guests of Honour and formally released the World Record Number.

NETAJI’S BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

Shree Venkateswara Arts and Science College, Othakuthirai, Erode District, celebrated the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on January 23, 2026, with great patriotism and enthusiasm. The programme was organized by the Department of Costume Design and Fashion in association with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, and My Bharat Kendra, Erode.

The event commenced with a welcome address by Ms.T. Shalini, Head of the Department,   and was inaugurated by Dr. A. Mohanasundaram, Principal, under the leadership of        Mr.G. Gowtham, CEO. Mrs.M. Yazhini, Gobi Block Coordinator of My Bharat Kendra, presided over the function, and Mr. C. Nanjappa, Vice Principal, delivered the felicitation address.

The Principal highlighted Netaji’s leadership, patriotism, and sacrifices, inspiring students to contribute to nation-building. Students from the Department of Costume Design and Fashion actively participated in the programme. B. Meenakshi (III Year) and S. Sivaranjani(I Year) delivered impressive speeches on Netaji’s life, achievements, and inspirational legacy.

An art competition depicting Netaji’s freedom struggle was conducted, in which A. Naseera Fathima, N. Deepika, and P. Yamini secured first, second, and third prizes respectively. The programme successfully fostered patriotism, historical awareness, and creative expression among students.

Extension activity

On 18th December 2025, Shree Venkateswara Arts and Science (Co-Ed) College, Othakuthirai, The department of Costume Design and Fashion. organized an Extension activity programme at Udhavum Illam,Tiruppur. The programme was conducted under the guidance of the Principal Dr.A.Mohanasundaram,in the presence of Mr.Anand Trustee of Udhavum Illam , presided over the programme. About 20 of college students conducted training programme for students. They taught simple creative activities such as drawing, draping, bottle art, glass painting, and embroidery etc.About 40 school students were participated in this training programmes. The Chief Guest motivated the children by sharing his life experiences and spoke about  the importance of patience and education. The children participated actively and enjoyed the programme. Finally school students were given appreciation and prizes for their best participation & creative ideas.
The event was successfully organized by the Head of the Department and faculty members with the support of the students.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT

The students of Costume Design and Fashion (CDF), numbering 120, visited Bhuvaneswari Spinning Private Limited, located at Arasampalayam near Kangeyam.
The Department of Costume Designg and fashion organized this industrial visit on October 14, with the objective of providing students with practical exposure to the textile manufacturing process. The visit was conducted with the kind permission of our respected Principal, Dr. A. Mohanasundaram. The main aim of the visit was to enhance the students’ understanding of fiber-to-fabric conversion and yarn production techiques. During the visit, company officials Mr. Jaffer and Ms. Nisha warmly welcomed the students and provided an in- depth explanation of various departments, machinery, and operational procedures involved in the yarnmanufacturing industry. Their detailed briefing enabled the students to gain valuable insights and technical knowledge about the textile production process. The program was successfully organized under the guidance of HOD of Costume Design and Fashion, with the support of faculty members. Overall, the visit was highly informative and provided students with a deeper understanding of industrial practices in yarn manufacturing, making it a valuable and enriching learning experience.

HAND LOOM DAY

The Department of Costume Design and Fashion at Shree Venkateshwara Arts and Science (Co-Ed) College successfully completed a Handloom Fashion Parade on 29.07.2025. Our Head of the Department, Mrs. T. Shalini, warmly welcomed the gathering. Principal Dr. A. Mohanasundaram delivered the presidential address. The Handloom Fashion Show was jointly organized by Kovai Makkal Sevai Maiyyam and Ideamax Institute of Design. About 120
students participated in the event.Finally, the College  Principal and Mr. S. Sathish Kumar from Ideamax honored the winning students, Prrthip Y of I B.Sc. and Harini D of II B.Sc., with the Brand Ambassador Award.

FIX A STITCH WORKSHOP

The Department of Costume Design and Fashion at Shree Venkateswara Arts and Science (Co-Ed) College in Othakuthirai. Held a two-day workshop program on sewing machine maintenance on July 17 th and 18th The program commenced with an inaugural address by Principal Dr. A. Mohanasundaram.
Mr. Sakthivel Selvaraj, Managing Director of Selvam Engineering, served as the chief guest and delivered a special address. Training sessions were led by Mr. Manikandan and Mr. Bhuvanesh.Approximately 120 students participated in the workshop and were subsequently awarded certificates of completion. The event was organized under the direction of Mrs.T. Shalini, Head of the Department, and with the support of faculty members.

ASSOCIATION INAGURATION

The Inauguration Ceremony of the Department of Costume Design and Fashion Virutsha ’25 Association transpired on 07 August 2025 within the Shree Venkateswara Arts and Science (Go-Edu) College Auditorium. The program commenced with an invocation, succeeded by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp.

The Welcome Address was articulated by Mrs. K. Dhenmozhi  Assistant Professor, Department of Costume Design and Fashion. Following this, Dr. A. Mohan Sundaram, Principal of the college, furnished a detailed exposition to the association members regarding the association’s mandate and its projected activities.

Under the tutelage of Mrs. T. Shalini, Head of the Department of Costume Design, the election of the association’s office bearers was conducted. In the presence of the Principal, Vice Principal, esteemed faculty members, and the student body, the oath-taking ceremony for the newly elected members was solemnly administered. The responsibilities incumbent upon each role were elucidated to the students, who were subsequently presented with their respective appointment orders and badges.

HANDLOOM DAY CELEBRATION

On August 7, 2025, the Department of Costume Design and Fashion at Shree Venkateshwara Arts and Science College (Co-Education) conducted a successful Handloom Day Celebration and Association Inauguration. Assistant Professor Mrs. K. Dhenmozhi cordially welcomed all attendees.

In observance of Handloom Day, the Chief Executive Officer, Principal, faculty members, and students convened to form a warp wheel. This activity was intended to symbolize and promote awareness of handloom heritage. Subsequently, the Association Inauguration and Freshers’ Day program commenced.

Principal Dr. A. Mohanasundaram delivered the presidential address, while Vice Principal        Dr. C.H.I. Nanjappa discussed the historical significance of Handloom Day. The Chief Guest, Ms. Naveena, a fashion designer, addressed the students with an inspiring speech regarding handloom awareness and motivation, encouraging them to preserve and promote traditional weaving practices.

Finally, the College Principal and Mr. S. Sathish Kumar from Ideamax honored the winning students, Prrthip Y of I B.Sc. and  Harini D  of II B.Sc., with the Brand Ambassador Award.

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Signing Ceremony

The Department of Costume Design and Fashion of Shree Venkateshwara Arts and Science (Co-Ed) College, Othakuthirai, Gobichettipalayam, held a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Signing Ceremony in the Board Room on July 14, 2025, at 10:00 AM. This accord was established with INJEX KNOWLEDGE PRIVATE LIMITED, Erode.

The Memorandum of Understanding(MOU) is strategically designed to foster academic collaboration and skill development among students via structured industry engagement. Mr. Sampath Kasirajan, CEO, and Mr. R. Senthil Kumar, representing the Injex Team in Erode, were honored guests at the ceremony.

ASSOCIATION INAUGURATION AND WELCOME CEREMONY

The Association Inauguration and Welcome Ceremony for the Costume Design and Fashion Department was held on August 20, 2024, in the college auditorium. The chief guest, Mrs. P. Selvi from Nandha Arts and Science College, inspired students with a speech on career opportunities in fashion design. Fun activities organized by the senior students created a lively atmosphere for the freshers.

Mr. Kavariarasu, an expert in block printing, provided valuable insights and awarded certificates to graduates. The event concluded with a vote of thanks, marking a motivating start to the academic year.

HAND LOOM FASHION SHOW

Shree Venkateshwara Arts and Science (Co-Education) College, in collaboration with Kovai Makkal Sevai Maiyam and Dream Zone, organized a Handloom Garments Parade on July 19, 2024, at its campus near Kaundappadi. The event aimed to celebrate the beauty of handloom fabrics and inspire students’ creativity in fashion design.

Mrs. T. Shalini, Head of the Costume Design and Fashion (CDF) Department, welcomed the audience, emphasizing the importance of supporting traditional textiles. Principal Dr. A. Mohanasundaram and Mr. Aadhavan, Centre Head of Dream Zone, encouraged students to explore innovative uses of handloom fabrics.

The highlight of the event was a parade featuring fifty students wearing handloom garments. A special competition crowned Gokula Kannan as “Kaithari Raja” and Harini as “Kaithari Rani.” The event concluded with participants receiving certificates and a renewed appreciation for handloom artistry.

 

INDUSTRIAL CAD 3D WORKSHOP

INDUSTRIAL CAD 3D WORKSHOP was held on 02/07/2024. Dr. A. Mohanasundaram, the principal, presidded over the event. Mrs. T. Shalini, Head of the Costume Design and Fashion, will give the welcome speech. Chife Guest S. NAVEEN PRAKASH, a college alumnus and 3D designer for Royal classical Tirupur. He discu ssed how “fashion is the armor to survive the reality of everyone’s life” and how 3D applications are used in the industrial sector.
